Peg Powler is a grotesque figure from British Folklore believed to haunt the river Tees. Similar in aspect to the watery hag Jenny Greenteeth, she also lures children and menfolk to their death with her bewitching hypnotic stare and long green hair. The scum which often forms on the surface of the river is referred to as 'Peg Powler's suds'.
