REBIS: Androgyne of the Wise

Handcrafted one of a kind textile doll inspired by the illustration from the 14th century Alchemical text Aurora Consurgens.

"The Rebis is the alchemical end product of the union of opposites after all the associated qualities have been purified and united into something stronger. In this illustration, the giant blue bird raising up the androgyne represents sublimatio, or the drawing of the spiritual from the corporeal"

Sculpted and handpainted fabric bird, internally wired with beaded fringe on tail and beak/tongue details, and individually made feathers. The androgyne figure can be removed from bird, and carries a small bat and hare.

Hangs from a fixed loop on reverse.
